Baby Dies After Being Found 'Covered in Blood' Near His Mom, Who Police Say Had Slashed Wrists

"A 15-month-old baby boy died after being found "covered in blood" inside a New York City home on Monday, Dec. 29. Police officers found the child unconscious and unresponsive inside a house on 157th Street in Jamaica, Queens at about 1:30 p.m. after responding to a report of an assault, an NYPD spokesperson told PEOPLE."

"Both of them were taken to Jamaica Hospital, where the boy was pronounced dead and the woman was listed in stable condition. The cause of death has not been determined for the baby, who did not have either stab wounds or blunt force trauma, a police source told PEOPLE. The blood on the boy may have belonged to the woman, whom the source confirmed was the victim's mother."

Blood on the child may have belonged to the woman, who was confirmed as the victim's mother. New York's Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death. No arrests were made as of 5:30 p.m.
