Macy's 4th of July Fireworks is the largest fireworks display in the nation, set for this year on the East River and Brooklyn Bridge. Approximately 60 licensed pyrotechnicians gathered to rig barges with over 80,000 shells, with 50,000 shells launched from barges and 30,000 effects from the Brooklyn Bridge. The display will introduce hi-tech projection mapping to show animations on the bridge. Fireworks designer Gary Souza and his family-run team from Pyro Spectaculars have dedicated a year to design and prepare the show, inspired by natural colors and carefully timed effects.
For the first time, the Independence Day display will make use of hi-tech projection mapping technology to cover the towers of the Brooklyn Bridge in animations timed to the score.
Gary Souza has been in the fireworks business for over 40 years. He works alongside his sister, brother, and their children. Four generations of the Souza family have been part of the California-based Pyro Spectacular team.
More than 80,000 shells carefully arranged by the crew this week will detonate in a few days for the nation's largest fireworks display, Macy's 4th of July Fireworks.
The spectacular annual show will return to the East River this year, after launching from the Hudson River in 2024. Roughly a mile-long stretch of four barges will serve as launchpads for 50,000 shells.
