Chronic speeder gets up to 9 years for killing mom, 2 kids in Brooklyn crosswalk
"A chronic speeder with a history of violating speed limits and red lights was sentenced to up to nine years in prison for the deaths of a mother and her two kids run down while walking through Brooklyn crosswalk earlier this year. Miriam Yarimi, 33, of Midwood, was sentenced by a Brooklyn judge on Wednesday to a prison term of three to nine years for killing Natasha Saada and her daughters, Diana and Deborah."
""This defendant is a reckless driver who cared about only herself when she raced in the streets of Brooklyn and wiped away nearly an entire family. She should not have been driving a car that day but, instead, she chose to callously ignore all traffic and safety laws when she caused this unspeakable carnage," District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said in a statement."
"Saada was walking across Ocean Parkway on a sunny afternoon in March with three of her kids when Yarimi came speeding through the Midwood intersection behind the wheel of a blue Audi sedan. Her two daughters, 5 and 8, were killed; Saasa's 4-year-old son survived, but was hospitalized in critical condition. Officials claimed Yarimi was driving northbound when she struck the rear bumper of a Toyota Camry turning right onto the parkway from Quentin Road."
Miriam Yarimi, 33, of Midwood pleaded guilty to three counts of reckless manslaughter and was sentenced to three to nine years in prison for the deaths of Natasha Saada and her daughters, Diana and Deborah. Yarimi read a statement saying she accepts full responsibility. The district attorney had sought a maximum of five to 15 years, and prosecutors condemned Yarimi as a reckless driver who ignored traffic and safety laws. Saada and her children were struck on Ocean Parkway after Yarimi allegedly hit a Toyota Camry, lost control, struck pedestrians, and flipped her Audi. The family sought a longer sentence; a young son survived in critical condition.
