Mayor Eric Adams announced over $1 billion to reconstruct the nearly three-mile Riegelmann Boardwalk in Coney Island and upgrade nearby streets, sewers, and public spaces. The Parks Department and Economic Development Corporation will lead work that includes replacing utilities, structural piles, and elevating sections of the walkway to improve climate resiliency. The plan aims to boost year-round economic activity and includes construction of 1,500 housing units with 25% affordable units and a $42 million renovation of the Abe Stark Sports Center. The environmental review is expected to continue into 2027, with capital funds earmarked through 2032.
