Councilman Restler calls for crackdown on illegally parked vehicles in Downtown Brooklyn
"Councilman Lincoln Restler is calling for the city to crack down on illegally parked cars in Downtown Brooklyn, some of them with government placards or phoney ones. A study put out by his office found 457 illegally parked cars on average daily in certain parks of Downtown Brooklyn, the majority of them with government placards or phony ones. News 12 was on Adams Street and saw traffic agents handing out tickets and towing cars."
""Every single one of these cars has either a placard in it of a city worker where they park their personal vehicle in the middle of the street, or they put a fake placard in their car. It's hard. You know, it's hard to find parking. These are tough jobs, but you can't park illegally and there has to be accountability for everyone not to be one set of rules that applies to all of us, city workers, civilians, all the same," said Restler."
A study found an average of 457 illegally parked vehicles daily in specific parks in Downtown Brooklyn, with most displaying government-issued or fake placards. Many of the placards appear to allow city workers or others to park personal vehicles illegally in the middle of streets, contributing to parking scarcity and perceived unequal rule enforcement. Traffic agents were observed issuing tickets and towing vehicles on Adams Street. Recommended responses include revoking certain placards, prohibiting issuance of new placards, and increasing enforcement efforts. The proposals aim to restore parking fairness, ensure accountability, and apply uniform rules to city workers and civilians.
