"A 76-year-old woman in New York City was killed on Sunday by a 7-foot solar panel that came loose due to strong winds as the East Coast was battered by a powerful nor'easter. At around 10:30 a.m. ET, a woman was found unresponsive on a walkway in the Coney Island area of Brooklyn, the New York City Police Department said Monday. Authorities determined that the pedestrian was struck in the head by a solar panel."
"On Sunday afternoon, New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) inspectors were called to the scene to investigate "reports of a partial collapse of a solar panel installation at an outdoor parking lot," the NYC DOB told NBC News on Monday. "Our inspectors observed that a 41" x 87" solar panel had become disconnected from the steel carport structure which is standing overhead the outdoor parking lot," the DOB said."
A 76-year-old woman in the Coney Island area of Brooklyn was killed after a 7-foot solar panel became loose and struck her in the head. She was found unresponsive on a walkway at 10:30 a.m. ET and was transported to Lutheran Hospital where she was pronounced dead. New York City Department of Buildings inspectors were called to investigate reports of a partial collapse of a solar panel installation at an outdoor parking lot. Inspectors observed that a 41" x 87" panel had disconnected from the steel carport structure and was taken by the wind about 20 feet, striking a pedestrian. The DOB coordinated with the MTA to close a nearby Ocean Parkway subway entrance amid ongoing strong winds and coastal flooding warnings.
