
"BROWNSVILLE, Brooklyn (PIX11) - A gunman suspected of killing his neighbor was fatally shot after he opened fire on NYPD officers in a Brooklyn apartment building Monday morning, police said. The suspect's bullet grazed a 25-year-old cop on the left side of his face in the first-floor hallway of the building at 1046 Thomas S Boyland St. in Brownsville at around 7:45 a.m., according to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch."
"The officer returned fire and struck the perpetrator, who then barricaded himself in the apartment, police said. The suspect was later found dead in the apartment after drone footage showed him lying motionless on the kitchen floor with a shotgun near him. "We don't believe there was a self-inflicted wound," NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said at a press conference. "We believe the suspect was shot by the injured officer, who returned fire once he was shot in the face.""
A shooting unfolded at about 7:45 a.m. at 1046 Thomas S. Boyland St. in Brownsville. A 25-year-old NYPD officer, Sharjeel Waris, was grazed on the left side of his face by birdshot pellets and was treated at Brookdale Hospital before being released. Officers had been investigating a homicide after 41-year-old Leroy Wallace was found on the sidewalk with a gunshot to the chest and died at the scene. The suspect fired on officers in the hallway, was struck when the officer returned fire, barricaded himself, and was later found dead on a kitchen floor with a shotgun nearby. Two responding officers and a driver were injured in a crash and sustained minor injuries.
