Hundreds of firefighters battle massive 5-alarm warehouse fire in College Point: FDNY - QNS
""The fire was located inside a lumber yard, which represented a significant fuel load and allowed the fire to grow rapidly," FDNY Assistant Chief Michael Meyers said."
""For us, we were incredibly competent in the fact that nobody on the fire side got hurt, nobody on the EMS side got hurt, and no civilians hurt," Chief Meyers said."
""So for us, even though we lost the building, it's an incredibly successful operation. At the end of the day, we limited the spread to one building and didn't allow it to go anywhere else.""
A 5-alarm warehouse fire occurred in College Point, starting on April 10. Firefighters responded quickly but faced heavy fire conditions due to a significant fuel load in a lumber yard. The fire escalated, prompting the FDNY to deploy 90 units and around 300 personnel. Eight tower ladders were used to combat the flames, which were visible from nearby bridges. Firefighters successfully contained the blaze to a single 64,000-square-foot warehouse, with no injuries reported. The fire was under control by Saturday morning, and the cause will be investigated.
