David Ferrick alleges defrocked Father Patrick Sexton molested him multiple times in 1979–1980 at St. Cecilia Church in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Ferrick's lawsuit under New York's Child Victims Act claims the Diocese of Brooklyn was aware of Sexton's pedophilic tendencies and failed to protect children. Church attorneys denied that leaders "knew or should have known that Father Sexton was a known sexual abuser of children." Unsealed personnel files include a September 6, 1979 document showing Sexton admitting he "took pictures of [four boys] naked in the shower" at Jones Beach. A November 2004 letter states allegations "began shortly after he was ordained to the priesthood."
