NYC Ferry will begin running service on new revamped routes on Monday | amNewYork
"NYCEDC is thrilled to announce the finalized Ferry Optimization Plan, marking the first-ever systemwide redesign to deliver faster commutes, better connections, and improved service for New Yorkers across all five boroughs, said EDC President & CEO Andrew Kimball in a statement last month. NYC Ferry and the EDC finalized the new routes after receiving over 15,000 responses to their proposed redesign released in July."
"Perhaps most notable among the fresh routes is one that will, for the first time since the system launched, connect Brooklyn to Staten Island. The current Saint George route, which connects the landing in Staten Island to West 39th Street in Manhattan, will now also stop at Bay Ridge and Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn, as well as Wall Street in Manhattan."
"Staten Island Council Member Kamillah Hanks (D) said in a statement last month that the change was long-overdue and will help connect her borough to the rest of the city. By linking Staten Island to Brooklyn and Pier 11, we are unlocking new opportunities for commuters, supporting our local economy, and reaffirming Staten Island's role in New York City's future, Hanks said at the time."
NYC Ferry will launch revamped routes on Dec. 8, 2025 under a systemwide Ferry Optimization Plan managed by the New York City Economic Development Corporation. The redesign aims to shorten commute times, improve efficiency, boost ridership, and expand destination options across all five boroughs. The finalized plan followed more than 15,000 public responses to the proposed redesign released in July. The Saint George route will, for the first time, link Staten Island with Brooklyn stops at Bay Ridge and Atlantic Avenue while continuing to serve Manhattan. The changes are intended to unlock commuter opportunities and support local economies.
