He said that the person of interest in police custody came to the apartment "at least three times" before and once tried "to break open the door with a screwdriver.""
"A "package theft alert" pasted inside the building warned residents about the crew of thieves, who would repeatedly buzz random apartments until they were granted entry into the lobby, according to the sheet. A 41-year-old superintendent of a Ditmas Park apartment building was fatally beaten after a dispute with a man alleged to be part of a crew stealing packages. The superintendent, a married father of three, was rushed from his Ocean Ave. building to Kings County Hospital Center in critical condition and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Police took a 30-year-old man into custody; the exact relationship between the two men remains unclear. Building staff and tenants reported repeated package thefts since the summer, and a posted alert warned residents about thieves buzzing random apartments to gain lobby entry.
