"In PSAL 4A, John F. Kennedy (Bronx) got the help it needed and made the playoffs after Fort Hamilton (Brooklyn) defeated Brooklyn Tech last Sunday. "Excitement - that's the best word to describe it," John F. Kennedy coach Alex Vega said. "Our guys have been through a lot this year. So I'm proud of the kids for persevering, and now we have a chance.""
"The Railsplitters' seniors have given them a boost heading into the postseason. "I really like the way we've grown up," O'Connor said. "Even though we have 31 seniors, I feel like we've come together, especially on offense despite injuries. And our defense has been steady, and [linebacker] Ron Jones has been a leader for us - great kid, great student - and I feel like we're jelling at the right time.""
High school football playoffs have begun in New York City after nine regular-season weeks. John F. Kennedy (Bronx) reached the PSAL 4A postseason after Fort Hamilton defeated Brooklyn Tech, entering as the No. 5 seed at 3-5. Senior running back Derik Betances leads JFK with 1,317 all-purpose yards. JFK will face Abraham Lincoln (Brooklyn), which finished 5-3 and lost 34-14 to Erasmus Hall while Christian Borhi, the 4A passing leader, was sidelined and is questionable. Lincoln's senior leadership and steady defense, led by linebacker Ron Jones, are strengths heading into the playoffs.
