Relay, a business-to-business delivery platform, is shutting down its New York City operations and terminating thousands of workers effective April 1. The company advised employees to begin transitioning to other third-party delivery apps and warned that some platforms may have waitlists. Relay's parent company, Wonder, acquired Relay in April 2024; Wonder also owns GrubHub and Seamless. Relay launched in 2014 to provide lower-cost deliveries for independent restaurants. New York City passed a delivery worker minimum wage in 2021; a June settlement required Relay to comply and included payments and penalties for prior violations.
