"Whoever stole my Cleveland trophy from room 314 at The Fifty Sonesta please give it back! It has NO material value, just sentimental value. It would be (greatly) appreciated!"
"Cirstea, a 35-year-old from Romania, won her third career singles title earlier this month in the Cleveland warmup tournament for the U.S. Open."
"The hotel said it had no comment."
Sorana Cirstea reported that the trophy she received after winning a recent women's tournament was stolen from her New York hotel room while she competed in the U.S. Open. The theft occurred from room 314 at The Fifty Sonesta. She appealed late Saturday night, two days after elimination from singles play, requesting the trophy's return and stressing that it holds no material value, only sentimental value. Cirstea, 35, won her third career singles title earlier in the Cleveland warmup tournament for the U.S. Open and then lost in the second round at Flushing Meadows to No. 11 seed Karolina Muchova. The hotel had no comment.
