"I can't decide because everything's my favorite. But I'm learning how to do a laser heelflip. I haven't landed it before, but I'm close."
"No, my friends at school never skate, not one single person. I'm the only one. My classmates only know about Tony Hawk and kickflips. A lot of them play soccer."
Noah Uchida is a fourth-grader in the East Village who skateboards and is learning a laser heelflip. He says he can't decide on a single favorite trick because everything is his favorite. He has not landed the laser heelflip yet but is close. None of his classmates skate; many play soccer, and most only know about Tony Hawk and kickflips. Noah does not practice with friends from school and is the only skateboarder among his classmates. His skateboarding interests and skill development occur largely independently of his school peer group.
