A woman believed to be in her early 30s was struck and killed by a yellow Mac dump truck operated by the city Department of Transportation on Tuesday morning in Queens. The incident occurred just before 9 a.m. when the truck driver made a right turn from Metropolitan Avenue onto Lefferts Boulevard. The victim died at the scene and has not yet been identified as she was not carrying ID. The driver remained at the scene and was not immediately charged. City officials expressed condolences and stated the collision is under investigation. The Department of Transportation noted that crashes involving city vehicles have decreased over 20% since Vision Zero launched in 2017.
