"While the other 10 players on the team appeared to do their jobs just fine, Koo bizarrely dragged his toes against the turf as he tried to kick, leaving him unable to even touch the football. Punter Jamie Gillan, who was holding the ball in place for Koo's kick, realized something was amiss and stood up to try to run away from incoming Patriots defenders. He was quickly overwhelmed and taken down."
"I was approaching the ball and, cold weather, the ball kind of slipped out at the bottom so it was moving, Koo told the New York Post after the game. I wasn't able to kick through the ball. The ball was moving when I was driving to it, so I just pulled up on it. Jamie did a good job of catching it and putting it back but, at that point, it was too late."
New York Giants kicker Younghoe Koo stumbled on a 47-yard field goal attempt, dragging his toes on the turf and failing to make contact with the football. Punter Jamie Gillan, who held the ball, recognized the broken timing, stood up, and was immediately tackled by Patriots defenders, turning the play into a turnover. Replays showed Koo's kicking leg hit the ground before contacting the ball, disrupting his momentum; the hold by Gillan also appeared imperfect. Koo attributed the problem to cold conditions causing the ball to slip and said he pulled up as the ball moved. Broadcasters laughed after seeing the replay.
