Darren Mougey, preparing for his inaugural draft as the Jets' general manager, announced plans to pick up the fifth-year options for cornerback Sauce Gardner, wide receiver Garrett Wilson, and edge rusher Jermaine Johnson. Mougey acknowledged their significant contributions, particularly Gardner's All-Pro status and Wilson's remarkable consistency. With contract extensions on the horizon, Mougey aims to prioritize the draft before formal negotiations. He also sidestepped questions regarding Aaron Rodgers and his recent comments on the organization, keeping discussions private.
"I do anticipate exercising those fifth-year options on those players," Mougey said.
"I'm going to get through the draft, but in terms of contracts and extensions on any players, I'll always keep that in-house," Mougey said.
Gardner was First-Team All-Pro and made the Pro Bowl his first two seasons.
According to OvertheCap.com, Gardner's fifth-year option in 2026 is projected to be worth $20.186 million.
