""I want to be a voice to push the party to the left,""
Antonio Reynoso, 42, will run for New York's 7th congressional district, the seat being vacated by Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez. Velázquez, 72, is retiring after 16 terms and was the first Puerto Rican woman to serve in Congress. Reynoso plans to fight President Trump's attempts to curb immigration and federal safety net programs and aims to decorporatize the Democratic Party and push it left. NY-7 includes Greenpoint, Williamsburg, Bushwick and Ridgewood in Brooklyn. The Democratic Socialists of America is expected to hold a January endorsement. Other potential candidates include Tiffany Cabán, Kristen González and Claire Valdez. Reynoso was elected borough president in 2021, succeeding Eric Adams.
