"It's been kind of a crazy morning. I heard of it, they (the Blues) gave an hour, hour and a half notice, then I kind of talked to family and friends, then got to meet Patrick Roy and Mathieu Darche. So I met them on a different floor, kind of went back and forth, then got asked to waive (his NTC)."
"Once Darche and Blues GM Jim Montgomery agreed to the terms of a deal sending Brayden Schenn to the Islanders, there was still the hurdle of having Schenn waive his no-trade clause. With the stars aligning as the two teams were in the hotel, Schenn was able to meet with both Darche and Roy before waiving his NTC and finalizing the trade."
The New York Islanders completed a trade deadline acquisition of Brayden Schenn from the St. Louis Blues. The transaction was facilitated by a fortunate circumstance: both teams were staying at the same hotel in San Jose during their respective games against the Sharks. GM Mathieu Darche and Blues GM Jim Montgomery agreed to the deal terms, but Schenn needed to waive his no-trade clause. The proximity of both teams in the same hotel allowed Schenn to meet with Darche and Patrick Roy on a different floor to discuss the trade and complete the waiver process. Schenn remained in the same hotel room and will continue with the Islanders through their California road trip, eventually facing his former Blues team in St. Louis on Tuesday.
