If I felt great, I want two, I want three - it will be up to Ilya how many games he wants to play. I'm sure he's going to play one of the next two and we'll go from there.""
"Ilya Sorokin has established himself as one of the league's top netminders. Missing the start of training camp last season after undergoing back surgery over the summer, Ilya Sorokin will enter this season with a full camp under his belt with a chance to become the franchise's second-winningest goalie, needing 37 to surpass Glenn 'Chico' Resch (157)."
Training camp and preseason serve as evaluation periods for coaches and general managers to set the opening-night roster. Several roster spots for the New York Islanders remain unsettled, but the team's starting goaltender for Oct. 9 is clear. Ilya Sorokin has emerged as one of the NHL's top netminders and missed last season's camp after summer back surgery. Sorokin will enter this season with a full camp and needs 37 wins to surpass Glenn 'Chico' Resch for second-most franchise victories. Sorokin has not yet appeared in two preseason games, and Patrick Roy plans to start him in the first preseason game while letting Sorokin choose additional exhibition starts to optimize readiness.
