Mat Barzal and Semyon Varlamov of the New York Islanders are both expected to be ready for training camp following their knee surgeries. Varlamov, who has not played since Black Friday, is making good progress in his rehab and aims to start skating in June. Despite concerns about his readiness at 37, he remains positive. Barzal, meanwhile, indicated he would have pushed to return for playoffs had the team qualified, yet now looks forward to a strong preparation for training camp.
I expect to be ready for next season," said Varlamov, who didn't play after Black Friday. "Everything is going well with the rehab and then the physiotherapy.
Really wanting to persevere through this," Barzal said. "I was working to try and get back, but eased up when a berth started looking less likely.
