National Grid proposes freezing gas prices until 2028
About two million National Grid customers in New York City and Long Island could have gas delivery rates remain unchanged for two years under a proposal filed with the state Public Service Commission. If approved, the freeze would continue current gas delivery rates until March 31, 2028. The proposal follows prior rate increases for National Grid customers in April 2024, April 2025, and September 2024, and a separate Con Edison rate hike earlier this year. National Grid said the freeze would provide financial relief amid inflation and rising living costs. The company also proposed $250 million in customer credits to support gas distribution infrastructure. Climate activists welcomed the short-term freeze but expected additional future increases.
