""Last year I was struggling a lot in the D-zone, giving up chances," he said. "This year, I feel way more comfortable in our structure, closing on guys and not giving up much defensively.""
""It's been great, obviously," Ritchie said of training camp. "You get a chance to play with guys like Cizikas and Palmieri in games, and every shift you're learning. You're coming back to the bench talking about what just happened, and you're picking up things every day from those guys.""
Calum Ritchie has been loaned to the Bridgeport Islanders of the AHL to continue development after a lower-body preseason injury. He scored two points in four preseason games and began the season on non-roster injured reserve after the Oct. 2 injury, rehabbing steadily. The 20-year-old will make his AHL debut after being the 27th overall pick in 2023 and totaling 254 points in 221 OHL games with the Oshawa Generals. He appeared in seven NHL games with Colorado before being acquired in the Brock Nelson trade. Bridgeport coach Rocky Thompson will give Ritchie top-six minutes and special-teams opportunities to accelerate his adjustment to the professional game.
