"After being selected by the NY Islanders 17th overall in this summer's NHL Draft, Kashawn Aitcheson has had a dream start to his OHL season as Captain of the Barrie Colts. Second in the league in goals with 15 and leading all defensemen in points with 24 through 19 games, Aitcheson has been a force on the ice, whether it be through his offensive play or bone-crushing hits."
"Following the Greyhounds' shootout winner, Soo forward and Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Marco Mignosa waved at the Barrie bench as his teammates piled onto the ice, essentially telling Aitcheson and the Colts to, "Go home." The Colts didn't take too kindly to the gesture, looking to engage in some extracurriculars before leaving the ice. If things had ended there, there'd be no issue. But as the officials got both teams off the ice, the Soo fans were giving it to the Colts."
"Before heading down the tunnel to the locker room, Aitcheson dumped a water bottle on a Soo fan. It's not clear exactly what, if anything, was directed at Aitcheson. And while there's no reason for adults to be acting in such a manner towards junior hockey players, Aitcheson, a leader on this team, was out of line for his reaction."
Kashawn Aitcheson was selected 17th overall by the NY Islanders and serves as captain of the Barrie Colts. He ranks second in the league with 15 goals and leads defensemen with 24 points through 19 games. Aitcheson combines offensive production with physical, bone-crushing hits. After a recent game with the Soo Greyhounds, a postgame gesture by Marco Mignosa toward the Barrie bench provoked players. As teams left the ice, fans jeered the Colts and Aitcheson dumped a water bottle on a Soo fan before entering the tunnel. The OHL has not yet commented and a suspension is possible.
