Gov. Kathy Hochul nominated Kathryn Garcia, her state operations director, to be the next Executive Director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Garcia served four years in the Hochul administration after placing second in the 2021 Democratic mayoral primary and previously led New York City Sanitation under Mayor Bill de Blasio. Garcia will replace Rick Cotton, who will retire in January. Hochul credited Garcia with shepherding major projects including the Gateway Tunnel and the Interborough Express. Jackie Bray was tapped to succeed Garcia as state operations director. Cotton praised Garcia as a superb choice.
