Francisco Lindor announced via Instagram that he will reprise his role as captain of Team Puerto Rico for the upcoming 2026 World Baseball Classic. Having previously served as captain during the last tournament, he expressed his honor at leading his national team again. Lindor's previous experience in the WBC includes being named MVP in 2017 and earning recognition on the All-WBC team. The Mets, for whom he also plays, have not had an official captain since 2018, but Lindor has been considered a potential candidate for the title due to his leadership qualities.
Honored to be captain of Team Puerto Rico for the 2026 World Baseball Classic PR Vamos mi borinquén!
I do feel like I am one of the leaders of the team. There's a lot of leaders in there. The captain [title] is something that is not up for me to decide.
