"I won't stick New Jersey commuters with that tab for years to come. That's not fair. So here's the bottom line, FIFA should pay for the rides, but if they don't, I'm not gonna let New Jersey commuters get taken for one."
"The least FIFA can do is ensure New York residents can go to the stadium without being gouged at the turnstile. I am demanding FIFA step up and cover transportation costs for host cities and states."
New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill condemned the World Cup host agreement that leaves FIFA responsible for no transportation costs. NJ Transit plans to increase fares to $100 for fans traveling from New York to MetLife Stadium, a 775% increase from the average ticket price. Sherrill expressed concern that NJ Transit could face a $48 million bill for transporting fans. She insisted that FIFA should cover these costs, especially given their projected $11 billion revenue from the event. New York Senator Chuck Schumer echoed these sentiments, demanding FIFA take responsibility for transportation expenses.
