Staten Island HS baseball: St. Peter's flexes its muscles in 18-0 drubbing of Hayes
Briefly

St. Peter's showcased exceptional performance with an 18-0 win over Cardinal Hayes, dominating in both batting and pitching. Aidan Whorton, following a prior no-hitter, started the game strongly, supported by a defense that solidified a shutout. A strategic shift encouraged aggressive hitting, resulting in nine runs in the first inning alone. The momentum continued with multi-hit players, notably Ayden Rosario, as the Eagles built an insurmountable lead, concluding the game in just five innings under the mercy rule.
Flawless performances are hard to come by, but St. Peter's came awfully close on Tuesday with a dominant five-inning, 18-0 mercy-rule win over Cardinal Hayes.
Eagles head coach Bobby Glennerster said their strategy to get swinging early and often was a necessary change of rhythm.
Whorton kept it simple: 'I'm just trying to have fun. I used to be a lot more tense, but I'm finding that I'm throwing a lot more strikes now.'
The Eagles sent a staggering 15 batters to the plate in the opening frame, exploding for a 9-0 lead before Cardinal Hayes even got a second turn at-bat.
