Lawrence Shankland makes silverware pledge after swapping Hearts for boyhood club Rangers
Lawrence Shankland agreed a two-year contract with Rangers, with an option for a further season, after securing a move to Ibrox. He previously signed a three-year deal with Hearts last summer, but a release clause allowed him to become a Rangers player when the transfer window opens on June 15. Both clubs confirmed the agreement on undisclosed terms. Shankland said Rangers is his boyhood club and described the move as a dream, adding that he wants to help the club return to winning silverware regularly. He scored 20 goals for Hearts last season and 88 across four years. Rangers head coach Danny Rohl praised his quality, leadership, work ethic, and experience, and wished him well at the World Cup before pre-season.
"I am delighted to be here and to have this opportunity. Rangers is my boyhood club, and it has always been a dream to play here, so I was really keen to get it done. "A lot of hard graft has gone in to get to this point, and I'm just really happy. "The club are in a position where they want to get back to winning silverware more regularly, and I want to be a big part of that, so that's what I have come here to do."
"We are delighted to have Lawrence join Rangers. "He is a player with proven quality, leadership and work ethic, and his goalscoring record in Scotland speaks for itself. "He understands the demands and expectations that come with playing for Rangers, and we believe his character and experience will be a huge asset for the group. "I wish him well at the World Cup this summer, and look forward to welcoming him back to Glasgow during pre-season."
"The Scotland striker has agreed a two-year contract with the option of a further season. The 30-year-old signed a new three-year deal with Hearts last summer after weighing up his options but the contract had a release clause which will allow him to become a Rangers player when the transfer window opens on June 15."
"Shankland came within minutes of leading Hearts to the Scottish Premiership title before his side suffered an agonising 3-1 defeat by Celtic on the final day of the season. The Glasgow-born striker scored 20 goals for Hearts last season and 88 in all in a four-year spell."
