The New York Yankees extended their season-high winning streak to seven games with an 11-inning, 5-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox. Cody Bellinger delivered the go-ahead bloop single in the 11th after Chicago intentionally walked Aaron Judge. Aaron Judge and Austin Wells hit home runs, increasing the Yankees' major-league-leading total to 232. The win moved New York two games behind the AL East-leading Toronto Blue Jays and 1½ games ahead of the Boston Red Sox for the first AL wild-card spot. White Sox left-hander Martin Perez has a 0.57 ERA across three starts since returning from elbow inflammation.
"A bunch of wins coming different ways," Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger said, "so that was a good one."
"Sounds good, but a lot more baseball to be played and one more here tomorrow," Bellinger said Saturday. "So just focus on the one tomorrow and see what happens."
"I think it was all the work I was putting in on my body and my arm," he said. "Mentally, I'm ready. I was into the process and trying to get ready with my head at some point. I know I have to go out there and do my job."
