Yankees pitcher Ryan Yarbrough has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to a right oblique strain, forcing Allan Winans to make his first start for the team. Yarbrough experienced increasing discomfort during his recent performances and underwent imaging that confirmed a low-grade strain. Boone expressed hope that Yarbrough’s recovery wouldn’t be lengthy. Meanwhile, Winans impressed in the minors with a 0.90 ERA, prompting optimism for his upcoming appearance. The Yankees acquired him from Atlanta, where he had struggled in the majors, but found success at the Triple-A level.
My understanding [is] it's something that's been kind of coming on a little bit in his second-to-last start, and then a little more sore toward the end of this last start.
He's been tremendous. To be this deep in the season as a starting pitcher and have a sub-1 [ERA] - it's been really, really excellent.
Hopefully [it's] not something that keeps him down from throwing too long.
Winans has made eight major-league starts - all with Atlanta - and is 1-4 with a 7.20 ERA.
