Episcopal Church says it won't help resettle white South Africans granted refugee status in US
Briefly

The Episcopal Church's migration service has declined to assist in resettling white South Africans granted refugee status, citing its commitment to racial justice. Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe announced this decision after 49 South Africans were set to arrive in the U.S. under an expedited program initiated by President Trump, who claims discrimination against them. The church will conclude its refugee resettlement grant agreements with the federal government, emphasizing the unfairness of granting preferential treatment to certain refugees over others waiting for assistance.
"In light of our church's steadfast commitment to racial justice and reconciliation and our historic ties with the Anglican Church of Southern Africa, we are not able to take this step," Rowe said.
"It has been painful to watch one group of refugees, selected in a highly unusual manner, receive preferential treatment over many others who have been waiting in refugee camps or dangerous conditions for years," Rowe said.
