Following an Israeli airstrike, Dr. Saif Alden and his team faced setbacks in treating injured animals in Gaza. Despite the destruction of their mobile clinic's tools, they remain determined to continue their life-saving work. The team has treated over 7,000 donkeys and many other animals amidst a humanitarian crisis, as donkeys are essential for transportation and survival within the war-torn region. Alden emphasizes the importance of these animals in connecting people to necessary services, affirming their commitment to never abandon them despite challenges.
It was a test of our purpose, our mission and our resilience. It was a miracle that we survived. These donkeys are the last thread connecting people to the basic services they desperately need.
The attack took from us all the tools we use to save lives. We've started again, from zero, because the animals are still here. They still need us. And we will never abandon them.
Donkeys have filled the gap, used to transport goods and people, as they search daily for food, water and fuel, to get to hospitals and to transport them.
Our mobile clinic has treated more than 7,000 donkeys and thousands of other animals since the outbreak of the current war in Gaza in October 2023.
