New Jersey officials announced that bones discovered along beaches over the past three decades were identified as belonging to Henry Goodsell, captain of the 19th-century schooner "Oriental." This finding, which ties Goodsell to his shipwreck in 1844, resulted from a two-year investigation by Ramapo College students using advanced DNA testing and age-old records. Goodsell was among five crew members who perished due to a leak while sailing to deliver marble. The collaborative effort involved extensive genetic analysis and historical research.
