The First Ever Sighting of a Colossal Squid
Briefly

Kathrin S.R. Bolstad returned from an Antarctic expedition aiming to capture footage of the colossal squid, but did not see one. However, she later learned of a newly captured video of a juvenile colossal squid, about 30 centimeters long, from the South Sandwich Islands. Bolstad, a cephalopod biologist, noted the significance of this sighting and the importance of the colossal squid, which can grow up to 23 feet in its adult form. This highlights the ongoing intrigue and research surrounding this elusive deep-sea creature.
Pretty much as soon as I saw the footage, I knew there was a good chance," Dr. Bolstad said, reflecting on the identification of the colossal squid.
In its adult form, the colossal squid is larger than the giant squid and can grow to 6 or 7 meters long, or up to 23 feet.
