Governor Josh Stein has allocated over $58 million for broadband projects aimed at connecting 10,076 homes and businesses in 26 counties across North Carolina. The initiative, supported by the N.C. Department of Information Technology's CAB program and grants awarded to Brightspeed, is part of a broader effort to enhance digital equity, providing essential high-speed internet access. This funding will benefit nearly 108,000 households in total, underscoring the commitment to making internet access a crucial resource for education, healthcare, and business growth.
"Good partnerships between our counties, the state, and internet providers will connect North Carolinians," said Governor Josh Stein. "I look forward to continuing to bring high-speed internet to every corner of the state so that people can communicate with family and friends, grow their business, or access telehealth services or educational opportunities."
"High-speed internet isn't a luxury anymore - it's a lifeline for families and businesses alike," said Pamela Sherwood, vice president of Brightspeed's Broadband Office. "Whether you're working from home, helping your kids with school, seeing a doctor online or just streaming a movie together, reliable and affordable internet makes it all possible. Thanks to these grant programs, we're able to bring that connection to even more North Carolinians, and we're proud to be part of building a more connected future for our communities."
