Council committee briefed on proposed LDC amendments for wastewater treatment plant expansion - Austin Monitor
Briefly

The Austin City Council's environmental committee reviewed the $1 billion expansion of the Walnut Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant, set to increase its capacity and incorporate advanced treatment methods. The project requires various amendments to the Land Development Code, with environmental considerations in focus. Recommendations from the Environmental Commission include enhanced public education on water conservation, light pollution reduction, and improved community access to nature. The proposed amendments will be presented to the council on May 22.
"It's a truly generational project that we're doing here and we feel it also brings some community benefits," Austin Water's Charles Celauro stated, highlighting the project's significance.
The Environmental Commission recommended the proposed variances and ordinances at its April 2 meeting and made more than a dozen suggestions for improving the community-benefit aspect of the project.
