Michel Vasconcelos, once homeless, now thrives as a paperboy and journalist through Boca de Rua, a unique street newspaper in Porto Alegre that allows vendors to create and sell the content. This initiative provides a voice to the homeless, ensuring they are seen and heard. Weekly meetings foster a sense of community and collective storytelling, where participants not only earn a small income but also gain dignity and visibility. Over 90 such street papers exist globally, but Boca de Rua stands out as the only one making its vendors the creators of its content.
Boca de Rua has become a platform for marginalized voices, allowing street vendors to share their stories and insights in an empowering way, helping them gain visibility in society.
Each vendor keeps the money they make from sales, which provides a sense of independence and financial security, helping them reclaim control over their lives and dignity.
