Misinformation Course Teaches Ethics for Engineering Students
Briefly

A 2025 Student Voice survey indicates that while 72% of college students perceive themselves as media literate, many are concerned about misinformation among peers. Respondents suggest colleges should provide digital resources and integrate media literacy training into curricula. At USC, a new media literacy course for engineering students was developed to address these needs, emphasizing the ethical implications and real-world relevance. Faculty collaboration received a grant to foster innovative teaching practices, thereby enhancing students' information literacy skills.
"By focusing on engineering students, we were able to integrate a component of the course that addresses a social issue from an engineering perspective in terms of technical know-how and the professional ethics."
"Students tend to receive most of their news and information on online platforms; Student Voice data found that three in five respondents have concerns about their peers' media literacy."
