This new language app is like Netflix meets Masterclass, but for learning French
Briefly

6pm in Paris is an innovative language learning platform that blends the immersive experience of watching films with educational lessons. Each week, users select a French movie and engage with the content through informal lessons, utilizing dual subtitles and adjustable playback speed. The platform emphasizes cultural understanding to foster a deeper connection with the language. Co-founders Lea Perret and Julien Frei aim to make language learning an enjoyable, lifelong pursuit rather than a short-term task. The concept may expand to other languages and cultures in the future.
"A big part of our vision is to be a window on the language, and the people, and the culture," says CEO Lea Perret, emphasizing the importance of cultural context in language learning.
Perret imagined 6pm in Paris as a way to help students learn French beyond the classroom. "Most people will sell you methods to learn French in three weeks, but it doesn't work like that; it's a lifelong endeavor," she says.
