Allie Hagerty vacationed in Puerto Rico with her husband and two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Charlotte. Charlotte approached two girls her age and introduced herself; the children and their father did not respond. Charlotte returned saying, "They won't talk to me," which Hagerty found emotionally difficult to witness after encouraging her daughter to be social. Hagerty felt the episode lingered because she was already worn down by politics and global conflict, making small incidents land heavier. Hagerty posted a now-viral video venting her frustration, including an expletive remark about people having children (which she clarified as a joke). The video drew sympathy from many parents and pushback from those noting different vacationing styles and shyness.
