"Katie Grant Dickerson was not surprised to learn that she was pregnant with more than one baby. After all, multiples run on both sides of her family - and her sisters are triplets! But she was surprised to learn that she was about to give birth to quadruplets. "Every day we make it through is an accomplishment, a true miracle," Dickerson tells TODAY.com. She and her husband have been coping with the chaos of raising their "quad squad" for 7 months. "The biggest surprise is that we didn't know how hard it would be!""
"The first hurdle came when they had to select not just one name, but four. "We only had boy names in mind!" she laughs. So when they found out there would only be one boy and three girls, they were stumped. Their son's name was easy: George Traweek Dickson III, after his father - George Traweek Dickson II - and his grandfather. They call him Traweek (pronounced "TRAY-wick") just like his dad. Finding girls' names was daunting. The Alabama couple wanted to continue drawing names from their family tree, but their 27 nieces and nephews had already claimed many of their family names. So they had to look back a few extra generations. Pollye (pronounced like "Polly") Elizabeth came first. Her first name comes from her great aunt, while her middle name, Elizabeth appears often in both families. Next, Katherine Welling (nicknamed "Katie Wells") received a double first name, just like her mom, Katie Grant. Dickerson says that double names are "a Southern tradition" and there are "lots in the family." Leila Stiles was named after Dickerson's husband's great grandmother. Leila is pronounced "LEE-lah" and the family has already nicknamed her "Lee Lee." Not everyone on Instagram loves the names as much as the Dickersons do. The name Traweek in particular drew some rather harsh comments, even after she explained that it was a family name."
Katie Grant Dickerson, from a family with multiples and triplet sisters, gave birth to quadruplets: one boy and three girls. The couple navigated unexpected parenting demands and the complexity of choosing four names, preferring family-derived names and reaching back generations due to many relatives already holding common names. The son was named George Traweek Dickson III (Traweek). The daughters were named Pollye Elizabeth, Katherine Welling (Katie Wells), and Leila Stiles (Lee Lee), with specific pronunciations and nicknames. The parents describe each day with four infants as an accomplishment and have received mixed reactions to some names on social media.
