The author shares her personal experience with pelvic organ prolapse following childbirth, highlighting the lack of awareness and information surrounding the condition. With half of all women experiencing some form of prolapse, the symptoms can be debilitating, yet healthcare literature tends to downplay their severity. The author describes her struggles with diagnosis, revealing that symptoms vary widely among individuals. Despite living with this condition for six years, she remains uncertain about the specifics of her prolapse, emphasizing the need for greater awareness and understanding in both medical fields and society.
Every new surprise from not being able to use tampons, to an almost constant cycle of UTIs felt all the worse for my lack of mental and practical preparation.
Prolapse being so varied and, crucially, understudied makes for a great proliferation of potential symptoms which are, in my opinion, generally underplayed in healthcare literature.
