"Many are severely matted, most appear sick, and one was actively giving birth as our team arrived,"
"All have been living in unimaginable filth."
"Unimaginable Filth"
On June 26, 2025, emergency responders entered a Brooklyn apartment after being called about an "unresponsive" 73-year-old woman who was later pronounced dead. More than 100 small dogs were discovered crammed inside amid trash, feces, and severe filth. Many dogs were painfully matted, immobile, sick, malnourished, terrified, and one was in the middle of giving birth. Animal Care Centers of NYC, the ASPCA, and NYPD Emergency Service Unit conducted a mass rescue, providing urgent grooming, veterinary exams, and shelter. Neighbors described a "toxic" smell. A public petition seeks investigation and safeguards to prevent recurrence.
