Bizarre and wrong': Danish zoo sparks debate with plea for pets to use as food
Briefly

The Danish zoo's program for donating small pets to feed predators has generated a global reaction. Supporters highlight the program as a practical food source, while opponents criticize using pets as prey. Acknowledging the reality of carnivores in captivity, experts argue that feeding them animal matter is inevitable. The zoo's efforts aim to replicate the natural food chain by accepting pets needing to be euthanized. However, the backlash was fueled by the appeal's wording, and the zoo eventually closed comments due to hateful responses.
If you accept the fact that you have carnivores in human care, either as a pet or as a zoo, you will agree to the fact that you feed them animal matter. Basically there is no other choice. Vegan dog food is one of the few exceptions.
The zoo said it was simply aiming to mimic the natural food chain by urging those with chickens, rabbits and guinea pigs that need to be put down to instead hand them over to the zoo.
Nobody sees it and nobody needs to think about it; as soon as it's an animal that is being killed at the zoo, it's in everybody's face.
Some of the backlash was likely down to the wording of the appeal, as the zoo's plea made headlines around the world.
