Popular Easter treat could be LETHAL to dogs - and it's not chocolate
Briefly

As Easter approaches, pet owners must be vigilant of festive foods that can harm their dogs. While chocolate is commonly known to be toxic, the Kennel Club warns of hot cross buns and Simnel cake due to their ingredients like grapes and raisins. Statistics indicate a significant rise in chocolate poisoning cases during Easter, with nearly 20% of claims occurring in March and April. Robin Hargreaves, Senior Veterinary Advisor for Agria Pet Insurance, highlights the importance of keeping these treats out of reach and encourages immediate veterinary consultation if ingestion occurs.
Easter brings a wealth of different festive food into the household, and although highly dangerous to dogs, their acute sense of smell means they can sniff them out and get hold of poisonous food.
Owners should be mindful of any chocolate brought into the house, as well as other traditional treats, such as hot cross buns and Simnel cake which are also highly toxic to dogs.
