Two giant rodents to spend summer at London Zoo
Briefly

Gizmo and Kiwi, a pair of capybaras, have made London Zoo their temporary home while preparations for their permanent residence at Whipsnade Zoo are completed. Visitors can interact with them during the special Feeding Time at the Zoo event. Zookeeper Jessica Lawrance describes the capybaras as charismatic animals with unique preferences. They are known for their grazing habits and unusual behavior of consuming their own waste. The capybaras will be housed near Amara, a pygmy hippo involved in a conservation programme, and zookeepers anticipate that the animals will delight visitors throughout the summer.
Gizmo and Kiwi are a really charismatic pair, and we're really enjoying getting to know them and their preferences and quirks.
Capybaras have a habit of eating their own poo as the grasses they eat can be hard to break down.
We can't wait to see the joy on people's faces when they meet Gizmo and Kiwi.
Gizmo and Kiwi will live next to Amara - a pygmy hippo transferred from Edinburgh as part of the zoo's conservation breeding programme.
