Dan Muse has been named head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins, concluding a month-long search following Mike Sullivan's departure. The 42-year-old has never been an NHL head coach but has extensive experience as an assistant with the New York Rangers and Nashville Predators. General Manager Kyle Dubas emphasized Muse's skills in player development and success with special teams. Muse's coaching career began in the NCAA, and he also led the U.S. under-18 team to a gold medal at the World Under-18 Championship.
Muse has never been a head coach at the NHL level, but has served as an assistant with the Rangers for the past two seasons.
During this process, we met with many candidates who we felt would have been a fit as the next head coach of the Penguins, but ultimately, Dan Muse stood out as the best choice.
