""[T]here was a lingering difference that came after each swing on a park course: I was having fun. There were no ten-minute searches for a five-dollar ball, no petty rules to look up in a book.""
""Park golf, created in 1983 by Atsushi Maehara, is a big deal in Japan; according to the International Park Golf Association of America, there are 1,300 courses to be found across the country.""
Park golf, developed in Japan in the 1980s, is gaining traction in the United States. A newly opened park golf course at Great Gorge Golf Club in New Jersey highlights this trend. Players use a modified mallet-like club to play with larger balls, resulting in a quick game that can be completed in about an hour. Unlike traditional golf, park golf offers a fun, relaxed experience without lengthy ball searches or complicated rules. There are currently a few operational courses in the U.S., with more expected to emerge as interest grows.
